On Sunday evening, I joined a group of Nashville bloggers for a tour of the sparkling-new Whole Foods Market store in Franklin, TN. Representing the first new construction in the South region in two years, the Franklin WFM occupies a free-standing, single-story building of over 40,000 square feet. Scattered throughout the store are salvaged materials, antique furniture and ephemera collected from historic spots around Williamson County. The regional theme is emphasized by photos and profiles of the vendors within a seven-hour driving radius of the store. Local products are particularly abundant in the garden, produce, seafood, meat, specialty, and Whole Body departments. On Tuesday afternoons through October, local vendors sell produce, meat, and dairy products at the Franklin Farmer’s Market in the WFM parking lot.
The store is spacious, attractive, and must have 15,000 SKU’s (that’s just an educated guess). Experienced WFM customers will be familiar with many aspects of the store format and product selection; however, the Franklin store has some unique bells and whistles that are worth highlighting.
